Subject: Contact+Transient+Convergence Problem

Dear experts,
I am modelling a 2-D concrete gravity dam and foundation having alternative layer of two differernt materials ( E=73.8e9,D=1(negligible),nu=0.22 and E=11.1e9, D=1, nu=0.29) . Mat prop for concrete (E=25e9,D=2500,nu=0.15). I assigned contact material Conta171 and Targe169 and dam and foundation is modelled with plane 42. I have set normal and tangential stiffness as 1e9(absolute value)
1) The problem i am facing ,for static analysis it is not converging. I have used KOPT 12,2 for contact element.
2) The next problem is i have to run a transient analysis ( Seismic accln. History). So convergence problem in both cases which i cannot understand. Meanwhile i have fiddled around with different keyopts but without any positive result.
Looking for your suggestions.
