Thank you Dave and Guoyu!

I wrongly thought that initial stress can be put as a kind of "fictive"
body load, but this must be consistent with the stiffness and straining
of the material, i.e. stress always results from stiffness and strain. If
stiffness is nonlinear, it is clear that one has to apply the consitutive
model so to get an "initial" stiffness.
