Dan is right--this project is a dead end becasue no one knows how to
approach it. At this point Tan's making changes pretty much willy-
nilly without actually understanding whether the solutions he's
geting have any validity. This could turn into a real disaster when
it comes to getting any credit for the work. If it's going to be
reviewed seriously, Tan's going to be crucified. If review committees
know anything it's how to sharp-shoot sloppy logic. If it isn't going
to be reviewed seriously, the work is a waste of time and Tan might
just as well fake something or just honestly say that the simulation
didn't work. I think his advisor deserves a kick in the
