It sounds to me as though this is far too complicated a problem for an
undergrad problem (it is about fifty times more complicated than another
undergrad problem from a different university that I looked at last
month). I think you have had a decent stab at it and you should write
up what you have done and explain the difficulties and how the problem
could be taken further.
