There is some apdl code there (I think is is for a transient run) that sums strain energy. Strne.mac is the mane of the macro (i.e. search for strne)
It shouldn't take much modification to make it suit your purposes.

I must be a bit slow so I apologize. This should be obvious I know.
I'd like to calculate the strain energy in selected elements (specifically thin shell 163) but it doesn't appear that I can do that in ANSYS directly. Is that true? Any suggestions?
