Dear all,

Another thing to note: ANSYS does not use the full color of a JPEG or a tiff. It only does 256 colors which is what a PNG file maxes out at. JPEG is "lossy" and those little artifacts drive me nuts. What is that, does PADT have an article in "the Focus" on this subject? Why yes we do:
http://www.padtinc.com/epubs/focus/common/focus.asp?I=27&P=article1.htm

Honestly, I don't think the format matters as much as size. We have plenty of disk space on the new server but I'm more concerned about the impact of sending 1 megabyte to 3300 users on our poor T-1 line and everyone's e-mail server plus those who use mobile e-mail viewers.

So a reasonable limit on size and PNG as the only allowable format would work for me.

For a long term solution, we are looking to see if we can find a secure file upload capability. This would allow people to upload a file and get a link that they could put in their e-mail. If anyone knows of such a utility, please let us know. (BTW: FTP is an option but we are a little worried about security and we'd like some sort of link generator as well) You would use your XANSYS login to access the file if you wanted to view it. This is on our list to deal with after the new server is stable and happy. It would go in the "tools" section of the new web site.

Eric

I would vote for png, as mentioned jpg has poor image quality with lines.
Tiff is large, unless compressed, and there are many types of compression.
For small animations gif is the best. (I have found!)

I can assure you that there is no chance of an attachment size anything
close to one MB being allowed. I spend far too much time reading
XANSYS via my mobile phone and my total daily allowance is 15MB; over that it costs
