Subject: Re: UPF and -lm (Large Memory executable)
Author: Dwayne Shirley

I'm writing to revive this year-old thread, that was never fully answered.

I've noticed in Ansys 11 SP1 there are two ways to compile user defined
files:

(1) anscust.bat (2) anscust_lm.bat

Presumably the second option addresses the issue originally raised, however,
I could not find any Ansys documentation. The "-lm" parameter normally
turns the large memory option on and off in the x64 version of Ansys.

However, since there is only one ansys.exe in the "...customuserwinx64"
directory, it seems it may be irrelevant if the "-lm" parameter is issued.
Rather it hinges on which of the above bat files was used to compile the
customized Ansys.

>From the Ansys Whitepaper "Obtaining Optimal Performance in ANSYS 11.0",
there is a clear advantage on x64 systems to using the large memory option.
For the benefit of the x64-bit users amongst the XANSYS community, it may be
neat to have this hanging question clarified.

Any insights or experiences on this issue are welcome.

Best regards,
Dwayne
