Clement,

Sounds like a cool application for Ansys. I know ZERO about geodynamics, but this shear zone - is there something above or below it that would provide out of plane stability? Like dirt or rock? Are you trying to get post "buckled" shape to see if it matches some known data on shear zones?

Maybe you could describe in layman's terms (mostly engineers here) what lithospheric shear zone is. If it's rock-like, maybe the concrete elements could be useful to you in the future.
