Author: Richard Wang Date: 2008-04-07 13:04:47Distributed run divides the model into different parts (number of cpus) and solves them separately using each cpu to get each part of solutions, i.e., jobname1.rst, jobname2.rst, .... After all the solutions are done, the individual result files are combined to piece together jobname.rst from which results can be postprocessed. However, what's puzzling me is that if the simulation is terminated abnormally, either by computer crash or manually stop, the final result file jobname.rst cannot be formed and results cannot be postprocessed. Also, it seems to me that using the distributed mode does not save significant run time. For example, as I observed, running the same job on a 4-core computer distributedly and running it distributedly on three 4-core computers required almost the same amount of run time.

I'm new to using Distributed features within Ansys and when solving I'm a little confused regarding the result files which are put out. I'm using four processors to solve and five results files are produced in total. They are Jobname.rst, Jobname0.rst, Jobname2.rst, etc. Whenever the solve is done and I go to post process results I'm unable to view jobname.rst. I forget the exact error which it kicks back...something about no results I believe. However, I can view the individually numbered result files which contain results for a portion of the model. Does anyone know how I can get Ansys to view all results simultaneously?
Thank you,
