Shells sounds a good idea for this geometry. Without knowing any
loading info (location and direction), for concentrated loading, make
sure to bias the mesh around point loads and their regions (if applied
on a portion of the cylinder's surface). In this way you avoid having
singularity problems and excessively high stresses at that location.
