Paris,

I can plot the contact normals and they were generated correctly. I have no
evidence that anything is wrong with the contact elements, its just
unnerving to get a warning message that I don’t know the consequences of.
Unfortunately when I archive my models I delete the .err files so I have no
idea how long they have been appearing. For all I know they have always
been there. I will try creating the contacts with out the wizard and see
what happens.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,
Can you plot the contact elements with normals to see if they were generated
correctly over the areas you specified ?
I typically do this step with APDL to have more control over it (eventually,
you will need to tweak the RCs anyway - so why not define everything from
the get go). I still go with the defaults in the contact def. step, as
ANSYS makes some adjustments and then try to make changes.

Subject: [Xansys] Warnings in contact wizzard

All,

I am using the contact wizard to create contact between two lines in a 2D
model. The contacts generate as expected and the model will solve, but a
look into the .err file shows four warnings about *get commands. Through
some digging I found the commands are generated by the contact wizard.

*** WARNING *** SUPPRESSED MESSAGE CP= 39.297 TIME= 10:55:27
Some entities requested in the *VGET were undefined.

I understand what the message is saying, but I am concerned that the warning
is there at all. If the items ansys is trying to get are not there I am
concerned that the contact elements have not been generated as intended. I
looked though the log file and the contact wizard generates 4 *vget commands
when creating this contact set and they all produce the above warning. A
quick check of the error files from similar models shows the same warnings.
I had not noticed them before. I suspect these warnings can be ignored, but
I would like to know more about them before I do. I have a feeling that
this one of the reasons that one of the first commands the contact wizard
issues is /nerr,0.

Regards,

Mike
