Subject: Re: General FEA question

having come out of uni some years ago with a masters in motor vehicle
design, I am a bit out of touch with current developments and thinking in
vehicle dynamics or stress analysis, and I would myself hesitate to make any
comments about the a specific vehicle design. Running the risk of sounding
rude, my advice is, stay clear unless you are expected to make general
comments on vibration, dynamics, fatigue, .......... that apply to an
aerosol can as well as to the space shuttle.
Sorry for not being able to give you a more positive reply.

Hi Ansys users,
I am going to ask a very general question. I appreciate any reply to it.
Imagine you are supposed to give some comments on a new design for a
structure under dynamic loads like a vehicle body.
Using FEA tools what would be the tests you are going to do? Is modal
analysis and looking at natural frequencies and mode shapes of the vehicle
would be the first thing to do? If you are going to this, are you going to
do it at free (without any constrained on the structure), or you are going
to constrained it similar to the real case on the car.
Are you going to look at the stresses of the structure under staic load
cases, or it does not make any sense at all.
For sure doing fatigue analysis would be more accurate.
Thanks a lot.
