Seems to me like some loopholes have been pushed under the carpet, masqueraded by the flashy buttons, like the button put to bring background windows on top of main window. It shouldn't happen that way. What's your vote Bogdan?
Added to this disappointment is the concern that 6.1 doesn't open partially corrupted 5.7 files, which in fact is running well in its parent version. Has anybody come across this situation?

Mark,
I have installed ANSYS 6.1 on my laptop (WIN2K), and used start61.ans to bring up the Pan/Zoom/Rotate and Select toolbars, and they do appear each time, somewhere on the right time. It is true that they are in the background, being covered by ANSYS single window. On the menu, you have a button that allows you to bring up background windows. It is working for me.
