Subject: pressure-tank, 2D-axisymmetric, contac172

Hi,

I have got a little problem with ANSYS Rev. 5.5.2 .
I have a long cylindrical pressure-tank which I modelled with
axisymmetric 2D-elements Plane 82. The tank has a curved inner and
outer contour, so I have different wall-thickness. There is a
bandage, on a cone around the tank for a better stability. The contact
is realized by contac 172 and target 169 elements. Solution-Control is
ON. The solution doesn´t converge if I put pressure on the inner
nodes. With displacements it works. Caused by the different
wall-thicknesses I can't predict any possible displacement that may
occur in reality. So I need to work with pressure. How can I make my
solution run and converge????? During the failed solutions ANSYS gave
me a few warnings: "Element (Nr. ...) status changes abruptly from
contact (with target element Nr. ...) --> no-contact" What does that
mean??? Did the contact points penetrate too much, so that they got
out of the pinball-region on the backside of the element? Do I have to
specify a FKN with SOLCNTRL,ON? If yes, what value should I try?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Jochen Stahl
