Defined nodes don't have anything to do with the substructure. You can't
'replace' substructure MDOF with nodes. You can renumber the MDOF (or at
one time you could) with /AUX 8 if you want to rename the MDOF, but the
only good reason to do it was to speed up the run by making the node
numbers as low as possible.

You might be able to do what it sounds like you're trying to do by
generating nodes 1-5 in the substructure generation pass coincident with
the master nodes and merging the master nodes. That effectively
associates nodes 1-5 with the master DOF, but you can only do it in the
generation pass.

Chris,

I have actually done what you have mentioned in your second paragraph. When
the superelement is read in in the "USE" pass the nodes 1 to 5 are
recognised by ANSYS. I am not trying to replace the substructure master
nodes nor am I trying to renumber the MDOF. Actually ANSYS is replacing
coordinates of the generated nodes ( 1 to 5 ) with those of the superelement
master nodes and this action is resulting in element distortion and topology
errors. This has happened when I read the superelement after generating
normal elements using AMESH. (AMESH precedes SE).

If SE precedes AMESH , ANSYS is merging the generated nodes with coincident
superelement master nodes and also retaining node numbers as in the
superelement. In this case the analysis yields correct results.

The main purpose of my post was to focus on the inconsistency as above and
get knowledgeable explanation for this behavior of ANSYS.
