Subject: [GENERAL] Extruding Elements

Is it possible to extrude elements which are not connected to an
area? I have created a 2D mesh with plane 42 elements, and I would
like to generate a 3D model with solid 45 elements. It has been my
experience that if elements are not attached to an area, then round
off errors will not accumulate during mesh refinement. This is why no
area exists in 2D model. I have tried the following:

Clear and start new job, create area, then read elements and node
coordinates. This did not work because presumably the elements are
still not "attached" to the created area.

Any help would be appreciated.
