WindowsNT/Intel systems because of the price
performance.
So far no word from ANSYS Inc on Linux. I know it
was brought up by some users at the last conference.
I think they need to be sure that it is a stable
platform that won't turn into a support nightmare!
While we wait for that, you should try what I did.
Being a UNIX weenie from way back, I almost died when
I lost my korn shell. So I looked around and found
a product called Interix (formerly OpenNT).
This is a POSIX compliant system that runs under Windows NT
and gives you all of your UNIX functionality.
It also comes with the exceed X-Windows server as an option.
So when I run ANSYS, I run it under NT, then I open up
some X-terms and use VI, grep, awk, perl etc... to build
scripts and manipulate files. It is a very nice compromise.
With all of the options you can add, you can even use it
as a motif/unix development platform.
Check it out at: http://www.interix.com
Hope this helps
Eric

Dear xansys,
All this talk about processor performance has whetted my appetite for our
next ANSYS box. I really enjoy the elegance and control offered by the
Unix system that I'm currently on, but am envious of the price/performance
of Wintel systems.
Is ANSYS currently supported on Unix running on a Wintel box (e.g., Linux)?
If not, are there plans to do so in upcoming releases?
