How do you check for cracks in your model eg. for shell elements that have been
missed out from glueing. I think Ansys does not have any feature for this.

Nagesh,

The checklist(prepared by a colleague) given below is what I use at my work,
even though it is not properly ordered. I'm still working on it to include more

details.

Checklist for FEA Analysis

1. Matching model units (State units in the analysis title for reference)
Geometry, material properties, applied loads

2. Element type (proper application of type, keyopt switches)

3. Consistent normals for shell and the new 3D contact elements(170-174).

4. Gaps (proper orientation)

5. Real constants (correct real number assigned and correct values)

6. Material number and element type numbers (set correctly)

7. Elements and nodes are all selected

8. Duplicate nodes or elements

9. Cracks or missing elements

10. Planes of symmetry and symmetric boundary conditions.
Torque is an anti-symmetric condition
1/2 load at symmetric boundary
Pressures are calculated over whole surface

11. Loads, couplings and constraints (Nodal rotation, units check)

12. Angles & rotational velocities in radians.

13. Coordinate systems (is the proper one active)

14. Method of verification of results (hand calculations, test data)
Check for balanced reaction forces
