Are the short lines attached to areas that can be added together, in order
to make the short lines disappear?
Are you interested in the distribution near the pits, or what you need is
simply to take into account their effect on the stiffness of the whole
structure? If the latter is true, you can afford a coarser mesh near the
pits, so you can limit the divisions on the short lines, which I suppose
are near the pits.
