The fundamental problem with IGES is that it doesn't transfer volumes
only the bounding geometry that then has to be reassembled by ANSYS.
The less fundamental problem is that IGES is not a tightly defined
standard and different vendors implement it different ways.

I have had quite reasonable experience with taking Pro/Engineer IGES
data into ANSYS using the alternative import option. Two things I found
helped. One is that if ANSYS has ANY problems with the IGES import it
doesn't do a nummerge,kp. Doing this manually makes a big difference to
starting off the repair procedure on the correct foot. Secondly make
sure the accuracy parameter within Pro/Engineer is set tight enough
particularly if you are having problems with untrimmed areas.

Having said that if you are going to transfer data on a regular basis
then I have had good experience with the ANSYS Connection products.
They, of course, do understand about volumes.
