Subject: IGES import with smooth option in 6.0

What has happened to IGES import with smooth option in 6.0?
I'm running 6.0 on W2k Pro and the smooth IGES import no longer works.
Any attempt results in the 'Out of memory' error and speedy exit. This has
nothing to do with model complexity, as an attempt to import a single block
gives the same result.
Reading the help system, there seems to be no indication of changes in the
use of smooth option.
The faceted option works for some files, but that is not good enough. I need
to manipulate the models afterwards.
Is this something I should have known? Anybody else with the same problem?
