The computer I use for ANSYS is also the computer I rely upon for all of my other computing needs. One of these needs is the ability to access the internet While I was using Windows NT, Service Pack 3, I was able to have ANSYS run in the background, perhaps solving a model, while I transmitted reports to customers via email or reading the XANSYS emails.
Several months ago, I upgraded to Service Pack 4 and immediately discovered that the ANSYS license server detected that my IP address had changed (which is inherit with using a dial up network provider) and therefore terminated my ANSYS session. When I brought this issue to the attention of NSYS, through our ASD, the response was that ANSYS at that time did not support Service Pack 4. Therefore I uninstalled Service Pack 3.
I was recently told, through our ASD, that ANSYS now fully supports Service Pack 4 and I upgraded my system accordingly. The result is that I can no longer access the internet when using ANSYS.
For ANSYS to suggest that it is Windows problem (as was done in the past) is passing the buck. It is the ANSYS license system that is not compatible with Windows NT, Service Pack 4, and it is ANSYS that should resolve this issue to allow their customers to have the full capability of their computers.

We just made one more combat experience with the Ansys license manager.
We are using following environment:
Server: Intel based hardware, MS NT4.0 Service pack4, Ansys5.5.3 Clients: Intel based hardware, MS NT4.0 Service pack4, Ansys5.5.3
First everything was running well, one of the clients was busy with a thermal transient analysis. This system crashed. After restart we got an error message ( see image client2.jpg) and the license manager on the server was down as well ( see image server.jpg).
After reinstalling of NT and Ansys I recognized that the system time on the client showed year 2045 !?!?!, correcting this the problem was solved.
However, if a client has a system time over year 2000 or a different time than the server , you can kill the license manager on the server.
