Hi David,

It's pretty straightforward after one or two goes.

1) Apply NO boundary conditions (VOLTAGE)
2) Assign unique names (CM command) to groups of nodes on surfaces of
electrodes (electrodes are usually "modeled" as voids) followed by a number,
like
COND1: conductor #1
COND2: conductor #2

and so on. If one of the conducting surfaces is grounded, ensure that it get
the highest number.

Then,

3) CMATRIX,,'cond',# of electrodes

usually does the trick, unless you want to treat the domain surrounding the
system of electrodes as the only grounded potential in town, in which case

CMATRIX,,'cond',# of electrodes,1

Check the online docu (it's rather nicely done) for details. In 5.7:

Electromagnetic Field Analysis Guide
Electrostatic Field Analysis (h-Method)
Extracting Capacitance from Multi-conductor Systems
Procedure

cheers

I am parametrically (is that a word?) looking at capacitive changes
between two plates. One of the plates will be deforming from various
loading. Using the deformed shape, I would like to calculate the
resulting capacitance between the deformed shape and a ground plate.
Has anyone used cmatrix? If so, are there any cautions that I should
be made aware of?

Thanks
David
