See On-line help, Structural Analysis Guide, Ch. 3 (Modal Analysis) Chapter 3.6.2.3 provides an overview of different Modal analysis methods available in ANSYS Chapter 3.15 presents more details (Rev. 5.7).
The Subspace method works well if you have limited memory and need only a few modes. The Block Lanczos method is the default at Rev. 5.7,
