I am in the process of buying an NT w/s and need to choose a 3D graphics card that will work well for ANSYS. The candidates are: 3DLabs Oxygen GMX; E&S AccelGalaxy; Number Nine Revolution IV-FP (for the digital SGI flat-panel monitor).
Could you comment on the relative performance of these three cards for ANSYS? The Number Nine card is, I believe, not as powerful as the other two above.
Many of the features of high-end 3D cards such as texture mapping, transparency, and multiple light sources are rarely used by the average FEA user, right? Is the limited feature set (of OpenGL) provided in hardware by the lower-end cards then adequate for good ANSYS performance?
Specifically, will the Number Nine Revolution IV-FP provide performance comparable to the 3Dlabs or E&S cards wrt 3D transformations, polygon/vector display, etc (i.e., routine ANSYS model manipulation and postprocessing).
Do you have any ANSYS graphics benchmark data for any of these or other cards?
Thanks,
Sanjeev
