The only way you're going to know is to try a couple of problems and see if the editing produces results you need but can't get with a free mesh. Sounds like some users get results _they_ need but it's hard to tell if you'll get the results _you_ need. You're the only person who knows that.
Just saying 'more accurate' isn't an answer, though, until you know 'how accurate you need. Lots of time gets wasted by people who get asked 'will it work?' and spend two weeks running a 60,000 DOF model with every possible bell and whistle to answer a question that could have been addressed with a much simpler approach.
