Subject: Re: What is the difference between IGES import and Pro/E import

Hi,

IGES is a file format while Pro/E is a CAD software.
Therefore, it makes sense that using the Pro/E
connection utility will be better because it is
specifically catered for it

When you use a more general CAD format (i.e. IGES),
you probably used a CAD program to export your
original file to IGES format and then import it to
Ansys. My gut feeling is that all these conversion
will result in some unwanted effects.

As a side-track, I usually just draw my model in
Ansys instead of trying to import a CAD drawing
because I personally am rather skeptical of it. I
have previously tried this CAD import thing with
another FEM software and in the end, it resulted in
more work than just drawing my model in the FEM
software itself. Still, the CAD import way should be
the way to go but until I overcome my own skeptism...
